Naples, Italy
Napoli
Older than Rome. Home to world-renowned San Marzano tomatoes, that grow in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. Not to mention, the birthplace of pizza. Stanley Tucci describes Naples best: just “take the energy of New York, mix in the gritty elegance of New Orleans, add 3000 years of history, and cook it all up in the heat of the world’s most famous volcano.
EAT
If you only try one pizza, it must be a Margherita. According to Italian legend, in 1889, their queen dined there and ordered the pizza that went on to bear her name.
Not only can you eat Margherita pizzas here, you can make them! My family took one of their pizza classes, taught by a group of charming pizzaioli.
